A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Argent, a bend wavy and in cantel a cross flory Sanguine. Attached below the shield is a doubled scroll Maroon turned Silver inscribed ADVIVUM in Silver letters.
The shield is in the colors of the Medical Corps. The bend wavy, taken from the arms of Rheinprovinz, symbolizes service in the Rhineland campaign. The cross recalls the great militant Orders of the Crusadersknights united under vow to aid the sick and wounded; in this instance it symbolizes the units participation in the Central European campaign. The motto translates to To That Which is Alive.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 29 September 1954.
